Jack Caddy: New Purity

25 May – 22 June 2018

Moana is proud to present Jack Caddy: New Purity as part of  CIOMA Future Contemporaries.

Responding to the rise of a health conscious “New Age” ideology and spiritual enlightenment promoted by followers of the wellness industry online, New Purity explores how consumption can be read as an act of communion in the cultivation of our online selves.

As the virtual and actual merge, our identity is increasingly shaped by the public visibility of the image of ourselves we construct online. Our sense of self is pulled through our optimised online persona. The consequences of this phenomena we cannot fully grasp, as it’s magnitude intensifies beyond the horizon of our understanding. This video installation relishes in the discord between the promises of progress and the false hope of a network of people, built from the ground up like a pyramid of weeds.

A whole new network is waiting for you..

Jack Caddy is an emerging artist from Perth, Western Australia, finishing his Bachelor of Fine Art from Curtin University in 2020. He has been involved in projects exhibiting both nationally and internationally, and most recently launched an online exhibition alongside Grace Connors for Meanwhile Gallery (NZ). Having returned from study at ENSA Dijon, France last year, he has been a part of many group shows including as part of Moana Project Space’s exhibition Light As a Feather… at HOBIENNALE, Tasmania (2020), and the 25 under 25 City of Fremantle arts awards (2020). His work was also the first new media piece acquired by the Janet Holmes à Court collection (2020).

The inaugural, one-time-only CIOMA Future Contemporaries, is held at The Contemporary Institute Of Modern Art (2020) at PS Art Space in May and June 2018 aims to present a vibrant inventory of current Western Australian creative practice to a dynamic and future-focused audience.
