FLUX

13 November – 6 December 2020

  • Fiona Gavino
  • Myrto Angelouli

In FLUX, one of the world’s most ancient artforms interweaves with new media to produce a unique collaborative installation at Moana Project Space. The project is born of a creative collaboration between artists Myrto Angelouli and Fiona Gavino, Pixels+fibre, that explores the possibilities of combining the ancient techniques of weaving with the contemporary arts of film and photography.

FLUX captures and expresses the idea that ‘the only constant is change’ through the marriage of audiovisual technology and woven sculpture. Throughout their two-year collaboration, the artists have come to recognise that a digital image is built via patterned repetition – in a similar way to a woven mat or basket, where small increments are placed side by side in order to build the whole.

The pixels+fibre partnership was born from a year-long artist residency at the Fremantle Arts Centre (Moores Studios Program) in 2020-2020. Since then, the duo’s work has been selected for international exhibitions, installations within Australia and for participation in a number of European festivals. FLUX will develop new site-specific installation for Moana Project Space.

Exhibition opening Friday 13 November  – beginning with an artist talk from 6:00pm
